Cycling in Cambrian Mountains, Wales, UK

For many years the Elenydd has been a magnet for the more adventurous cyclist. The roads are some of the quietest in Wales and there are numerous bridleways and tracks including the 25 mile circuit of the Llyn Brianne Reservoir. Many of the forestry tracks are of a very high standard and little used. If you are looking for a challenge, the Devil's Staircase near Dolgoch on the Beulah to Tregaron road will satisfy even the keenest hill-climber.

The Lon Las Cymru (NCN Route 8 through Wales from Cardiff to Holyhead) has its mid-point near Dolgoch hostel. An easy route to the hostels is via the old Aberystwyth railway line to Tregaron.- 'The Ystwyth trail', which connects with NCN routes 81 (Lon Cambria from Aberystwyth to Shrewsbury) and 82 (Lon Teifi from Fishguard to Aberstwyth), which passes near both hostels.

Both Ty'n Cornel and Dolgoch welcome cyclists and have secure cycle storage.

"I camped at the hostel hoping to 'get away from it all' for a couple of nights and boy did I ever!! It was an amazing experience - views outstanding!! The directions were clear on how to get there so due to my 'no service' I was able to arrive safely and find my way home!! The hostel had everything I needed - toilets, showers, heating etc. I will definitely be going back!"
